Gus had a big day

Yesterday, Gus got four shots, a TB test, two new teeth, and a fever. Big day for the little guy! He had his first complete exam with our wonderful pediatrician. Everything looked good, except that he's below the 3rd percentile in weight (15 lbs at 10 months). He's in the 50th percentile in length, which is pretty impressive for a Guatemalan baby. He screamed, of course, when he received the shots and the TB test, but he laughed and squealed to himself the whole way home in his carseat. Such a happy baby!

During the doctor's visit, we noticed that his top two teeth are coming in. By last night, his shots and new teeth turned him from happy and squealing to clingy and fussy. He had a fever of 102.5F. Now, I know that this isn't much to be concerned about for you veterans out there, but this first-time-mama promptly freaked out and called everyone she knows with a baby. Needless to say, a dropper of baby Tylenol and a good night's sleep cured the fever and fussiness, and my happy, little boy is back today.

Here's a cute picture of Doc getting cozy with Gustavo yesterday (you can't see him in the picture, but Murphy was also lying at my feet).

You can see Catalina in the background hiding from the dogs. Even though she's made a little bit of progress with Murphy (one day she likes him, the next she doesn't), she really doesn't like Doc at all. This morning, I let Doc in from the backyard, thinking that Catalina was in the playroom. Instead, she was in the living room and when she saw him, she took off running. Then, she realized that she had dropped her toy on the way to safety. She screamed as if she thought Doc would rip it to shreds "MAMA...MICKEY MOUSE!"

The one she really needs to worry about is Murphy when it comes to ripping up toys. We have those Baby Einstein soft blocks (blue, red, green, yellow...if you have a baby, you probably have those blocks). Anyway, the yellow one quacks like a duck when you squeeze it. Last week, I heard a strange noise..."Quack-quack-quack-quack" over and over and over again. I followed the sound to Murphy, hiding behind a piece of furniture chomping on away at the yellow block...quack-quack-quack-quack!

One more photo...Catalina fashioned a mini-Mama out of her snacks yesterday and she thought it was so funny (so did I). If you look closely, you can make out the arms and a head. Sort of.
