Giving Thanks

We're still getting in the groove around here. Max and my relationship is getting tiny bits better by the day. It is still very fragile and will be for weeks, if not months, longer, but, we can definitely see a little improvement. I am so, so thankful. It's the glimmer of hope that I needed. I had a total meltdown earlier this week, or was it last weekend? I am losing track of my days. It's a lot of change at once, I guess, even for a grown-up (if that's what I'm calling myself these days!). I cried for an hour and a half straight, then I felt better. Maybe that's what Gussy should do. Bless his little heart, he's having a rough time. He's so jealous and threatened by every single thing. If he sees one of us holding Max, he stands at our feet begging us to hold him, too. If he sees me carring Max in the backpack carrier, he screams and cries, "That's MINE, baby Max. Get OUT, baby Max." If baby Max says, "Gah-gah," Gussy says, "No Gah-gah, baby Max," through clenched teeth, then hits the poor baby on the head. Gus is the very sweetest child and it's really hard to see him going through this. Any advice from the other mamas that read this?! I need it, if you've got it.

Here are some photos from our Thanksgiving week. We kicked things off with a wonderful program at Catalina's school. Catalina made the most beautiful indian you have ever seen. Her name was butterfly and she decorated her dress, made from a pillowcase, with butterflies.

Can't see her in this pic, but it sets the scene:

Gussy and Papa during one of the prayers...yes, I was the one taking a flash picture during the prayer, but it was just sooooo sweet:

What did I tell you earlier...look at Gussy in this picture:

And, now when I am holding them both, Gussy says, "TWO boys, Mama":

It was a big day for Catalina, because that night she had a pizza party celebrating the end of her soccer season. She's pretty happy that it's over. I guess we'll try something different next year. But, she sure did enjoy the finale party!

We spent Thanksgiving day - also Louie's birthday! - at Louie's aunt and uncle's house. They hosted us, as well as Louie's parents. It was the first time that they got to meet Max, so that was very special.

Our first Thanksgiving together:

The kids always have a blast at Dave and Doreen’s, as you can see in the pictures below. Look how big Gussy looks in this picture next to Max:

The food was amazing, as always! Here’s Cati enjoying the turkey like a true meat-eater:

After dinner, we celebrated Louie’s 34th birthday. Here are the kids helping Papa blow out the candles on his turkey cake and open his presents!

It was a wonderful day and the kids slept great that night thanks to all the excitement! We’re looking forward to a great weekend, one that will hopefully include putting up our Christmas tree. I’m already crying about Bibi going home and Louie going back to work next week. Wish me luck!

Hang in there. Going from 2 to 3 is a toughie even under the best of circumstances. Zac would go in for a hug and then hit Ben on the head! I would not even leave Ben alone with Zac to go potty for fear something would happen. It will get better and before you know it they will be best buds. Just hang in there, validate Gussys feelings, love him, and then move on to the next challenge. In a year, it will all be water under the bridge. Good cries always help too. I've had many breakdowns on my back porch while children were put in their rooms/beds/where ever! Before you know it that precious family of yours will find its rythem. Hang in there. Hugs, boo

You are doing great woman. Seriously. Not many people could do what you are doing - so you need to give yourself some props for handling this at all. MANY people could not. You are doing great - and you can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us. Ask Him to direct your steps, pray CONTINUALLY for guidance and patience to do the things He asks of you.

You can do this. You ARE doing this. And it WILL get easier. I promise. Just don't homeschool. That pretty much sent things off the rails around here - but first day of real school was today and I already feel like a million bucks. ;-)

Love you! Talk soon, Steph
