People are feeling better, dogs are not

Cati, Gus, and I are starting to get over our sickness. Poor Doc-dog, though, is sick now. He had two big, scary seizures within a 12-hour period, got sick all over the house, and wouldn't eat or drink a thing today. He's now at the "puppies' hospital" (that's what Cati calls it) and Murphy is lying by our front door waiting for his buddy to come home. The vet wants to watch Doc for a while and run some tests, then she will start him on seizure medication, Phenobarbital. We were hoping that we could avoid daily medication, but we just can't let him go through this again. It is a miserable, horrible thing to watch. It may take a little while to figure out the lowest effective dosage for him, but the vet seems very confident that we can control the seizures with minimal side effects. Our friend, Tiffany, has a GSP with epilepsy and they have been able to manage her seizures very well through medication, so that makes me feel better. Here's a picture of our Doc-dog on his new favorite perch. He sits up there making sure the backyard is safe from squirrels and lizards.

Oh that poor little angel--that would break my heart. I hope he gets better really soon!

Poor Doc. I hope you get the medication regulated quickly and all is well. Nat

Hi Guys,

Poor sweet Doc. He looks so precious in the window. I know it's not what you want to do but the medicine will work. We've made a game of giving "med-meds" and all the animals love that time. May has been seizure-free for over six months now and that's probably the longest she's ever gone. We've gotten the dose down to just one pill a day. Keep us posted and try not to worry too much. -Tiffany
